Garo, Garo (lit. "Dark-Haired Girl, Dark-Haired Girl") is the debut album and the first album in what would become the Gara microgenre, performed by Gara pioneer Zoran Kulina, released in 1990, by Phonodisk. It would be one of the rarest albums in Kulina's career, though not as sought-after as his next album, also named Garo, Garo.
Background
The musical style of the album would be unlike any other album in Kulina's career, which was most likely due to Perica Simonović having more creative input than Kulina. It would also be the only time he would work with Perica and Dule Kuzmanović.
Release
Garo, Garo would be released some time in 1990, though it was overshadowed by Kulina's post-war career. It wasn't until over thirty years later in 2022 when a post-humous interview with Kulina was posted to YouTube where the tape's existence was acknowledged.[1] Despite Phonodisk being a sublabel of Sarajevodisk, who is still somewhat active, it seems that the master, like many other albums published by Phonodisk, are lost.
On July 18, 2022, a recording of the album would be provided anonymously to RandomAtribute20k and would be subsequently uploaded to YouTube where it currently has over 12.5k views.[2] Although the recording is damaged, it is considered to be found.
