Zaveštanje (Serbian Cyrillic: Завештање, lit. "Legacy") is a single by Dragutin Knežević Krunica, released some time in 1993 by Fond Giška. It is one of few war-related albums relating to founding Serbian Guard member Đorđe Božović Giška.
Background
In 1992, after the death of Srpska garda commander Giška, "Fond komandantu srpske garde Đorđa Božovića", a fund dedicated to providing humanitarian aid, was set up in his honor. This fund was founded by Giška's surviving family, SPO members, and prominent musician Bora-Čorba.[1]
The fund was advertised the following year in the publication, Srpska reč for roughly two months until reporting of Vuk Drašković's second arrest by Yugoslav authorities overshadowed any and all advertising in the publication.[2]
Release
Zaveštanje was released some time in 1993 by Fond Giška. Its only known advertisement would be featured in a single issue of Srpska reč.[3] The single has ten speeches total with four speeches on the A side and six speeches on the B side. The author of these speeches and board member of the fund, Uroš D. Urošević,[4] would perform the third and tenth speech (dubbed "legacies" on the inner j-card) on the single. The background music provided for these speeches are from other songs from Krunica's discography, most notably from his poem recitals heard in Srpska zora and Srpska zora-2. Much like the label's previous release, Slava junaku, this not only features social commentary on the state of affairs in Yugoslavia, but also acts as a memorial for Giška.
The cover art is a mirrored picture taken from a baptism in a Medak church. The image is one of the last pictures taken of Giška before he died.[5]
The album would fade into obscurity following its release. Although a site dedicated to Krunica was founded and featured works both found and lost from him in the early 2000's, Zaveštanje was never featured nor mentioned on the site. A lot showcasing the single's cover was discovered, though it would not be until 2024 where user RandomAtribute20k would obtain a copy and post its contents online.
