Pokolj Srba na Čemernu (Serbian Cyrillic: Покољ Срба на Чемерну, lit. "Massacre of Serbs at Čemerno") is the thirty-second single by Narodni guslar Milomir Miljanić, released some time in the early 2000's, by Soko Production. The single's subject is the 1992 massacre that happened in Čemerno, Bosnia and Hercegovina. It is the second known Gusle album to cover the events in Čemerno.

Background

Monument erected in memoriam of the lives lost in Čemerno.

In the months leading up to the massacre, the town of Breza was bombarded by VRS forces. Bosnia's army (Armije RBiH) concluded that the shelling was from Čemerno and planned an attack.[1][2] On 10 June 1992, T.O. units from Korita, Orahovo, and Mahmutovića Rijeka as well as the Breza, Visoko, Kakanj branches of ARBiH raided the village,[3][4][5] claiming at least 30 lives. The army also took about 1,600 livestock, mostly sheep.[6] While ARBiH found the artillery positions and captured the VRS soldiers, the position was actually at Dernek, a hill not far from the village. For unknown reasons, the only unit to reach the position was the forces from Mahmutovića Rijeka.[4] All but three villagers were killed and the captured VRS soldiers were sent to camps.[7] Those who survived never returned and Čemerno is currently uninhabited.[8]

The album's main focus is the remembrance of the victims, rather than divulge in the specifics of the tragedy.

Release

Pokolj Srba na Čemernu was released some time in the early 2000's. With the catalog number relatively low (CD/AK 1008), it is assumed that it was released in 2003 or 2004. Since there are other releases in the same year under Miljanić's own label, Astron it is unknown if Pokolj Srba na Čemernu came before, in-between, or after.

The single only features one track and the cassette release would split the track between sides. Both versions have the lyrics on the back of their covers. The cassette version has alternate cover art, but uses the same pictures of Miljanić. It also credits the author of the song whereas the CD version provides more details on production.
