Stara i nova gara (Serbian Cyrillic: Стара и нова гара, lit. "Old and New Brown-Haired Girl") is a 1996 music video compilation made for Zoran Kulina's third studio album, Nova gara. This compilation is an adaptation of the CD version of the album as both the VHS and the CD versions contain the extended track "Garo, Garo" from the 1995 album of the same name. Aside from label and A&R, all credits for the album are strictly on the printed cover of the label.

Background

With the success of Nova gara, Renome produced music videos for the album. Within the extended Gara tracks, three concerts are shown, though their location and performance dates are unknown. All three are spliced within each other and are distinguished by the different uniforms Kulina wears.

Slaja bend also makes its second-known appearance in a VHS with the first being 1993's Otadžbina. This lineup would feature different members, most notably future music editor of Renome, Milenko Doknić of Migo bend. Vladimir Jakić who would typically be the keyboardist in Slaja bend (and was depicted as such in Otadžbina) plays the accordion along with Doknić. Another band appears in the Gara tracks, though it is unknown if they are the other members of listed on the VHS or a local band.

Release

Stara i nova gara was released some time in 1996 by Renome. There is only one known version of the release, a black shell VHS with an alternate version of the cover to Nova gara. Although the cover's track list is copied from Nova gara, the true track list is shown when the VHS starts. Some copies have a sticker while others do not have one.

Nova gara's Gara track is titled "Gari, garo". "Zvornik kolo", the opening to "Gari, garo" is separated from the track entirely and serves as the VHS's opening track.

"Garo, Garo" has a cut where the first reprisal of the chorus to the track's second indexed track is repeated. It is unknown if this was intentional or not. The audio used for the song is in poorer audio quality compared to the other tracks on the compilation.

Parts of the VHS would surface online as early as 2022 and as of 2024, the entire VHS is online via third-party. Renome has not acknowledged the release as no part of the tape has been uploaded to official sources.
