"A M E R I K A" (Serbian Cyrillic: "А М Е Р И К А") is a song performed by Zoran Damjanović Zoka.
Music and lyrics
Despite the format of the song's name it is not an acronym or initialism, rather it is a nickname for Slavko Lazarević who was a member of the SDS leadership in Ozren.[1] It is a song dedicated to Amerika, saying that he will bring the people of Ozren to freedom. The stanza "Kao Lazar po Kosovu ravnom" compares him to prince Lazar who was born in, fought and died in the Battle of Kosovo.[2] This is because the surname "Lazarević" means "son of Lazar" and according to the lyrics, Amerika is also from Kosovo. The use of "ravna", meaning "flat" is to create contrast with Ozren mountain as when describing land, the word is used to note the lack varying altitudes within a region.[3]
