Nedeljko Savanović (Serbian Cyrillic: Недељко Савановић; 1 October 1966-26 August 2015), most commonly known as "Neđo sa Manjače" (Serbian Cyrillic: Неђо са Мањаче, lit. "Neđo from Manjača") was a Serb war singer and songwriter. He was to appear on the reality TV show "Farma" along side prominent Serb war singer, Lepi Mića before his sudden passing.

Early life

Despite his namesake, Neđo was born in Banja Luka. Before the war, he would smuggle illegal tapes. When the Yugoslav wars began, he enlisted in the army.[1]

Career

Neđo would first be mentioned in the 1991 Dragutin Knežević Krunica album, Srpske Barikade. During the war, he would make three albums: Oj, Manjačo, Dosta nam je Ženeve i trača, and Poručuje Đujić iz Čikaga: "Probudi se Srbijo". Songs from Oj, Manjačo would be featured on the RTVJ CD compilation, Koktel srpskih pevača.

Post-war, he would write and perform with Delije sa Manjače from 1999 to 2003. In the 2003 album Joj ženo joj, it included contact information for his services. He would then go onto release Desetka na keca and Neđo sa Manjače in 2005. His sixth and last studio album, Novarinka would be published in 2007. He would go onto say that he disliked his postwar work as he did it for monetary gain.[1]

He would appear in the Renome event Zavičaju mili raju and perform on TV Duga. His last known credit is writing the title track for the Neđo Bobar album, Ruka desna, released in 2015.

Personal life

Some time after the war, Neđo lived in Slatina near Laktaši, Republika Srpska. In Јune 2012, he and six others would be arrested as suspects of a string of robberies.[2] There was no follow-up with the coverage of the incident, so it is unknown if he was sentenced or let go.

In 2014, he would go on the show Goli Život and talk about his military career, his post-war work, and what he did pre-war among other things.

Death

On the 26 of August, 2015, Neđo met with friends at a café where he expressed excitement on visiting the estate for the show "Farma" in Lisović as he was signed on as a contestant for season 6.[3] He suddenly fell ill and his friends immediately called for medical help. By the time they arrived, he was already dead. His death would be reported by family to Pink TV where the news would be published in the media the next day.

Upon the news of his death, director of Renome Siniša Kajmaković would express his condolences, saying that Neđo was hard-working man, though was hard on himself. Boro Majstorović of "Kawasaki" fame who was also a close friend of Neđo went onto say to the press that he met with him two days prior, noting how lively he was. Prominent folk singer Bora Drljača who was an associate of Neđo was also shocked by the news, stating that it was probably the excitement of being on a reality TV show that made his heart give out.[4]

Legacy

In present day, Neđo is mostly remembered for his war work, though some sources know him best for the incident in 2012. Compared to other war artists like Roki Vulović and Baja Mali Knindža, Neđo would not get as much attention in Western circles due to the lack of appeal.
