Srpskim radikalima (Serbian Cyrillic: Српским радикалима, lit. "Serbian Radicals") is the twelfth studio album by Serb war singer Baja Mali Knindža. While initial releases were published under the music publishing wing of the newspaper, Zemunske Novine, re-releases would reveal the actual publisher: Nina Trejd. Contrary to popular belief, the album was released in late 1997 to coincide with the Serbian elections. While there is some original content, most of the music in the album come from older material.
Background
There are three original songs in the album: "Himna srpskih radikalima", "Banana", and "Oj, Šešelju". These songs would be arranged by Dule Simović who also arranged works like Srpkinjo, majko, rađaj sinove and Probudi se Srbine. These songs contrast with the older works on the album, not only in arrangement but also in vocals as Baja's voice has a more clean, nasal voice which could be a result of age, smoking, or both. From this album onwards, Baja would sing with this vocal style.
This is the first time in a compilation that "Obilić me zove" would be renamed. It appears as the last track, but is renamed to "Kosovska" likely to fit with the album's theming.
The other songs are from older material, though "Srbi se nikog ne boje" and "Kosovska" are misattributed to the work of Slavko Mitrović Caleta.
Release
Srpskim radikalima was released in 1997 by Audio Produkcija Zemunskih Novina. While no release month is provided, with the elections starting in late September and ending in late December, it is speculated that it was released within that time frame. Nina Trejd would re-release the album in 2000 with an alternate cover with the subtitle "Слобода Шешељу".
In 2016, the songs would be uploaded to the Nina Trejd official YouTube channel. These uploads used the original Audio Produkcija cover and not the Nina Trejd version which caused some confusion. While "Himna srpskih radikala" is in high quality, the other two songs, "Banana" and "Oj, Šešelju" are not, which could be indicative of a lost master.
In present day, there is a misconception that "Himna srpskih radikala" is the official anthem of the SRS in English-speaking circles.
